Maximize ACT Math (Author Interview)

Maximize ACT Math
looks like the perfect guide to improve your math score.  What can you tell us about it?

There is no book like it. It teaches students how to master every standardized math concept, specifically, the Math ACT. In the front is a one-page formula/cheat sheet that covers every formula needed to ace the test. The book is broken down into 8 overall topics (units) with 51 subtopics (Chapters). Each chapter question is rated by level of difficulty from 1-10 by color. The book has detailed color coded solutions.

How long did it take you to write Maximize ACT Math?

15 years. Way too many hours.

What inspired you when writing Maximize ACT Math?

I actually didn’t plan to write the book at first. I was putting together hand-written packets of different topics to help my students ace their standardized math tests. I kept adding new packets and decided at some point to make it a book.

What will readers get out of your book?

This is a one of a kind book that covers every important topic on the ACT Math. Each topic is taught in detail. Students will maximize their ACT Math Score.

What is some of the feedback you are getting from readers?

They love how they can learn the test by learning one concept at a time. They like that each question has different difficulty levels, and they love the color. Not the ordinary black and white books they usually read for standardized test taking.

How did you come up with the ideas and match problems in Maximize ACT Math?

I love making up my own questions. Sometimes, they may be a little funny. In one question in the book, a smiley face is rotated 180 degrees. One of the answer choices has a sad face. This happened by accident, when I tried to rotate the figure, I accidentally changed the smiley face to sad and had to keep it. Also, I included my student’s names, some funny names, and some names of my friends and family in the questions. I used a bit of alliteration just because.

Did anything stick out as particularly challenging when writing Maximize ACT Math?

I kept changing the topics, the names, adding, subtracting. Word was a monster to use when drawing diagrams. I would move one thing and everything else would move with it. Formatting was horrible. Also, I was writing an SAT book originally but in midstream they changed the SAT. I had too much invested at that point so I converted the book into an ACT Math book.

Can you tell us a little about your background?

My education is from The University of Florida. I have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Statistics and an Interdisciplinary Certificate in Actuarial Science. I founded the original SAT/ACT Boot Camp with the City of Coral Springs, Florida in 2004. I have been a full-time math tutor for over 20 years. I have helped my students get into the most prestigious schools in the country.

Where can readers find out more about your work?

I have a website. Not much info about the book yet on there. Besides my intro in my book, this is the most I’ve written about it. I probably need to
